The Times Shreveport, Louisiana · Thursday, April 01, 1965 TEXARKANA, TEXAS - Funeral services will be held today for C. C. Burrus, academic dean of Texarkana College, who died Tuesday in a local hospital. The services will be held in the East Memoria Chapel with Dr. T. J. Wilbanks and the Rev. Richard Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Burrus had been receiving treatment at the hospital since March 18 when he suffered a heart attack. Dean Burrus has been associated with the college since 1943. He had served as acting president at one time. He was born Dec. 23, 1910 in Mount Pleasant, Texas, and graduated from Ballinger High School in 1927. He received his BA degree from Howard Payne College and his MA degree from East Texas State College. He had done graduate work at North Texas University and the University of Texas. Dean Burrus began teaching at Texarkana College in 1943 and had taught in the chemistry, physics, biology and mathematics fields. He was appointed interim dean registrar November 1959 and served in that position until March 1960. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and Texas Academy of Science the National Educational Association. He was member of the Texas State Teachers Association. He was director and a member of the credit committee of Bowie County Credit Union, and he was also vice president of the union in 1955 and 1956. He served as president of the Texarkana Kiwanis Club in 1960 and organized the Circle K Club the college. He was a he, member of the Texarkana Civic Music Association, director of the Four Association, director and vice president of the Texarkana Heart Association, commissioner of the Texas Housing Authority, a member of the Methodist Church, Sunday school superintendent, taught a men's Bible class, vice president of Aycock Distributing Co., in Texarkana, and owned a stock farm in Miller County. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joyce Burrus; a daughter. Mrs. Jesse E. King of Oxon Hill. Md.: a sister, Mrs. William Porter of Houston.
