The Banner-Press (David City, Nebr.), June 12, 1958, p. 5, col. 6 & 7 Abie Man Dies At Columbus James Stanislav, 86, retired Butler county farmer, died on Wednesday, June 4, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. James Pavel in Columbus. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, June 7, from the Bideaux Chapel in Schuyler and at 9:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul church in Abie. The Rev. Father Reisdorf officiated and recited the Rosary at the chapel on Friday evening. Serving as pallbearers were six grandsons: Joe Pavel of Seward, Dennis Pavel of Columbus, Robert Rezac of Sioux Falls, S.D., Donald Polak of Prague, Walter Stanislav of Lincoln and Bernard Stanislav of Abie. Burial was in the Abie parish cemetery. James, son of Martin and Mary Kavan Stanislav, was born Sept. 28, 1871, in Moravia, Czechoslovakia, and came to the United States with his parents, to a farm near Cedar Hill, Neb., at the age of three years. He was married to Emma Wahl at St. Peter and Paul church, Abie, on Jan. 8, 1893. After their marriage the couple farmed two miles north of Abie until 1928 when he retired and moved into the town of Abie where he had continued living until the present time. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, on Jan. 6, 1938, and one son, Joseph, in 1954, two sisters and a step-brother. Survivors include a son, Frank, Abie; three daughters, Mrs. Pavel (Mary), Columbus, Mrs. Emil (Rose) Polank [ Rezac ], Linwood, and Mrs. Louis (Emma) Polak, Wahoo; 14 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Francis Shavlik, Omaha.
