Bio

Mildred Pokorney, was called to The Heavenly Home by God on October 19, 2009, at her home at The Valley View Living Center in Ord, Nebraska. Mildred was born March 3, 1927, in Valley County, Nebraska to Louie and Bessie (Moravcek) Penas. Mildred was raised and educated in rural Valley County west of Ord, Nebraska. She was married to John Hlavinka on Sept. 25, 1951, at Ord, Nebraska. To this union two children were born Larry and Eileen. Throughout her life, Mildred cleaned houses for many people in and around Ord, Nebraska. Her husband, John, passed away May 11, 1972. Mildred was later married to James Pokorney on June 2, 1976. The couple made their home in Ord, Nebraska. James passed away May 6, 1994. Since 1994, Mildred has made her home at the Parkview Village at Ord, Nebraska. Mildred had been a member of the ZCBJ Lodge. She enjoyed polka music and gardening. Survivors are a son, Larry Hlavinka of Ord, Nebraska; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Henry Sydzyik of Ord, Nebraska; sister, Agnes Muhlback and brother, Elmer Penas both of Grand Island, Nebraska and a host of friends and relatives. Mildred was welcomed into The Heavenly Home by her parents, Louie and Bessie Penas; by her first husband, John Hlavinka, and her second husband, James Pokorney; brother, Eldon Penas; and sister, Lydia Proskocil.
