Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Tiemeier, 92, of Burlington, died at 8:10 AM Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Rose Bush Gardens in Burlington. Born February 10, 1921, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Margaret Fairbanks Sylvester. On November 20, 1943, she married James Charles Tiemeier in Burlington. He died February 10, 2011. Betty worked at Northwestern Bell as a telephone supervisor and then was stay at home mom and then later as a sales clerk for J.S. Schramm Co. for 17 years before retiring. She graduated from Burlington High School. She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church, Burlington Catholic Senior Citizens Group, and RSVP Steamboat Senior Citizens Group. She served on the board of the Senior Citizens Bingo Committee where she was known as "Bingo Betty". She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball fan. She enjoyed watching and feeding birds and loved flowers. Survivors include four sons, Michael (Sue) Tiemeier of Peoria, AZ, Steven (Jonnie) Tiemeier of Burlington, Thomas (Judy) Tiemeier of Bettendorf, Dennis Tiemeier of Crossroads, TX; one daughter, Nancy (Tim Sr.) Dwight of Park Rapids, MN; 10 grandchildren, Michelle (Patrick) Donahue, Christine (David) McClimon, Tim Dwight Jr., Jason (Nadia) Dwight, Melissa Tiemeier, Jonathan (Jennifer) Tiemeier, Katie (Ryan) Meyer, Laura (Matt) Hatz, Mark (Grete) Tiemeier, and Joanna (Cory) Wachal; 14 great-grandchildren, Dwight, Madison, Cole, Jessica, Ben, Allie, Payton, Wade, Zoe, Addison, Gus, Carter, Isla and Tierney; one brother, Wayne Sylvester of Ennis, TX; three sisters, Sally Tilton of Murphys Burrough, TN, Marilyn Leyes of Saint Louis, MO, Patricia Johnsen of Charlotte, NC; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
