Lillian V. Samsel, 83, rural Waterville, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, at St. Joseph Village, Manhattan. A service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Waterville, with the Rev. George Candea-Kromm officiating. Lois Andersen was organist. Alvin Roepke sang "Amazing Grace" and "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow." Pallbearers were Martin Merrill, Morris Merrill, Kenny Winkenwader, Tom Richard, Thom Howell and Dudley Nelson. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Waterville. Lillian Samsel was born Aug. 26, 1922, at Isabel, S.D., the daughter of Jacob and Katherine Sept Zulauf. She married Willie Samsel Jan. 14, 1940, at Waterville. She was a homemaker and a 4-H leader. She did interior decorating at historic homes in the Waterville community. She is survived by a son, Elmer Samsel, Waterville; a brother, Jacob Zulauf, Torrington, Wyo.; a sister, Lorraine Arland, Phoenix; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Katherine Zulauf; her husband, Willie Samsel; four sisters, Kattie, Pauline, Romona and Betty; and two brothers, Fred and Ed.
