Johannes "John" Tucherer was born in Odessa Russia of German parents named; Joseph and Margaret Tucherer. John met a young lady named Barbara Katherine Galsenlichter and they married on February 6, 1890. John and Barbara were blessed with twelve children, seven boys and five girls. They were: Barbara, Jennie, Steve, Mary Ann, Magdalena, Rose, Micheal, John, Danial, Felix, and Joseph. Two years after getting married and after much thought, John and Barbara departed for America, leaving many friends and relatives behind. Knowing that many of these loved ones would never be seen again, they sailed for America. They arrived in the United States of America on May 25, 1892. Like so many others before them, they made their way to the Dakota's. They got to Ipswich, South Dakota by rail along with other immigrants that were looking for a new way of life. In the spring of 1900, the Tuscher family moved six miles east and a half mile north of Ipswich. They built a two room sodhouse. In 1903 they moved a half mile west of their sodhouse and built a new wooden house. Being a carpenter, John did most of the work with some help from Barbara. They lived there until 1918. John passed away at the age of 73 in Ipswich, South Dakota. He was preceeded in death by his parents; Joseph and Margaret Tucher. He was survived by his wife Barbara Tucherer, his children, and many grandchildren.
