Son of Joseph & Hannah (Prather) Dollar. Harper Hartwell Dollar was born in Laurens District, South Carolina. He moved with his family to Meriwether County, Georgia in 1832. His father died there in 1833. He was married to Sara Ann Bird in 1847. His mother died on the home plantation in Meriwether County in 1853. Harper was the administrator of the estate of his father, Joseph. He had 11 siblings. Harper moved his family to Troup County, Georgia. By the 1860 census Harper and his family were living in the Mountville District 698, in Troup County, Georgia and he was an overseer on the Allison Plantation. War came to the south and to Georgia in April of 1861. Harper enlisted as a Private in July 1864 in Company A of the 4th Regiment of Georgia Reserves at LaGrange, Georgia. He was age 46 and the description given is 5 ft 10 inches tall, blue eyes, dark hair and dark complexion. His occupation was farmer. After the war by 1870 Harper and family were living in Hogansville, Troup County, Georgia. After 1870 Harper moved his family to Arkadelphia, Cullman County, Alabama. He died there in 1887.
