Bertha Laverne Mayes, age 78 of Frisco, Texas entered God's embrace on April 8, 2013 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born on August 26, 1934 in Frisco, Texas to Hagai and Margaret (Davis) Penland. Bertha married James Lynn Mayes on May 25, 1951 in Plano, Texas. She was an Insurance Claims Processor. Bertha is survived by her children, Dana Mayes of Frisco, Texas, Jill Benefield of Tioga, Texas, granddaughter – adopted daughter, Amanda Woodard and her husband, Aaron of Alvarado, Texas; grandchildren, Matthew and Brandy Mayes, James and Jana Benefield, Brandi Benefield; great-grandchildren, Pat Smith, Thomas M. Mayes II, Brett Oakley Mayes, Brynnlee Mayes, McKynnlee Mayes; several nieces and nephews. Bertha is preceded in death by her husband, James Lynn Mayes; son, Anderson Lynn Mayes; grandson, Thomas Micah Mayes; parents; sister, Johnnie Ruth Parvin and daughter-in-law, Frances Ray Mayes. A Funeral Service will be held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Frisco on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Carl and Roslyn Woodard officiating. Interment will follow at Little Elm Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family during Visitation to be held at the funeral home in Frisco on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
