Bio

Herald Coaster, January 30, 1996: Gertrude G. Burke, 87, of Lexington, Neb., formerly of Richmond, passed away at her home on Jan. 26, 1996. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Stateroom of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home, 3900 B.F. Terry Blvd. (FM-2218 and Hwy. 59) in Rosenberg. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Services were held at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 29. She was born on June 13, 1908 in Londonderry Township, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas C. Gallagher and Maud L. Clouse Gallagher. She was married to Joseph S. Head in June of 1924 until his death on April 5, 1935. To this union, there was one daughter, Zola Head Cranford. During World War II, she was a chauffeur at the Ravenna Ordinance Plant in Ohio. In 1947, she married Eugene B. Burke and they settled in Richmond. They owned a gas station and raised champion Neubian goats as well as a variety of registered dogs and birds. Her husband died on Dec. 18, 1963. She remained active in Texas as the director of a senior citizens center. Quilting and crafting were her favorite hobbies. She moved to Lexington, Neb. in June of 1992. Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Xerxa Gardner; two brothers, Frank Gallagher and Fred Gallagher; one stepdaughter, Corinne Whitle. She is survived by one daughter, Zola Cranford of Lexington, Nev.; one stepdaughter, Mildred Bingham of New Brownsville; one stepson, Bill Burke of Sweeny; a sister, Wilma McCague of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Don Gallagher of Canton, Ohio and William Gallagher of Quaker City, Ohio; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services are under the direction of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg. telephone: 713-341-8800.
