Rosenberg Herald, November 11, 1954: John Babovec, well-known 62-year-old Rosenberg man, suffered a heart attack while gathering pecans in a tree at the Sitta Flower Shop about 11:30 Wednesday morning. He was lodged in the tree and those nearby were unable to aid him, so the Fire Department was summoned about 11:45. He apparently passed away immediately. Garmany-Janca Funeral Home is in charge and no arrangements had been made shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. C.A. Candler of Rosenberg; three sons, Edmund Babovec of Rosenberg, vice-president of Rosenberg State Bank, Major Ben S. Babovec, U.S. Army, Philippine Islands, and Edwin Babovec of California. The Babovec's reside a 918 Mulcahy Street. *************************************************************************************************** Rosenberg Herald, November 18, 1954: Final rites were held for John Frank Babovec, 62, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday from the Czech-Moravian Brethren Church in Rosenberg, with Rev. Henry E. Beseda and Rev. W.E. Lowe officiating. Interment was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Babovec was born January 30, 1892 in Bell County, and moved to Fort Bend County in 1929 from Temple. He passed away November 10. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Babovec of Rosenberg; three sons, Capt. Ben S. Babovec of Philippine Islands, Edwin W. Babovec of Brawley, California, Edmund Babovec of Rosenberg; one daughter, Mrs. Lily Ruth Candler of Rosenberg; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Hejl of Temple, Mrs. Millie Krahulik of Bartlett. Pallbearers were Edward Babovec, Jerry Babovec, Louis Hejl, Daniel Chupik, Louis Chupik, Anton Chupik, Johnny Chupik, and Edwin Chupik. Mr. Babovec suffered a heart attack last Wednesday morning while gathering pecans in a tree at the Sitta Flower Shop. He was lodged in the tree and those nearby were unable to aid him, so the Fire Department was summoned. He apparently passed away immediately. Garmany-Janca Funeral Home was in charge of the services.
