Bio
Douglas Neil Best was born April 30, 1936, in Alliance, to Noel and Agnes Best. Doug grew up attending schools in Alliance and went on to serve with the United States Navy as a radioman in the Korean War. During his service in the Navy, he was the recipient of an Honorary Good Conduct Award. In 1958, Doug married Rosemary Montague of Hemingford, Neb. They had three children, James Douglas, Lisa Marie and Joseph Noel, and were later divorced. Doug's career as an auctioneer, business owner and field representative in the cattle industry took him to many states where he made many friends. Doug is preceded in death by his son James; his parents; an infant brother and his brother Leon Best; as well as his nephew Mark Watson. Doug is survived by his daughter Lisa (Brad) Strecker and grandsons Daniel and Scott, his son Joe and grandsons Brayton and Kyan Best, all of Billings, Mont.; his wife Donna of Alliance, her children and grandchildren; his sister Joan Best Watson of Scotts Bluff, Neb.; and his brother Bob Best of Alliance. Doug passed on April 1, 2013, at Good Samaritan Health Center in Alliance. He was cremated and laid to rest during a military funeral at Nebraska Veterans Cemetery of Alliance.
