Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Thursday, 3 December 1992 Lyle J. Murphy, 85, of 105 S. Tilden, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Greeley Care Home in Greeley. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Robert Chamberlain will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be ...at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral. Mr. Murphy was born July 23, 1907, in David City to Ed and Anastasia (Farrel) Murphy. He grew up and received his education in Greeley County. He married Lela Vanosdall on June 19, 1942, in Aurora. After their marriage the couple lived in Grand Island the rest of their lives. Mrs. Murphy died in 1985. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and Eagles Aerie No. 378. Survivors include one son, Marion and Shirley Murphy of Grand Island; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela in 1984; one brother, Clarence; and one sister, Marie.
