Bio

Bertha Martindale Oct 22,1927-April 9,2013 Bertha I. Martindale, 85, of Scottsbluff passed away, at her home, April 9, 2013. Her funeral services will be held at April 12, 2013. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Scottsbluff. Bertha was born at home in Scottsbluff on October 22, 1927 to Amalia and Henry Hoffman, German immigrants from Russia who helped start the sugar beet farming community. From the time of her birth, throughout her life, she was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She received her education through the Scottsbluff Public School system. As a young adult she worked for Dr. Griggs as an office tech, and cherished her happy memories as his assistant. Later she worked as office secretary for Elmer R. Kissack Typewriter Company, where she met and later married Perry"Pat"Martindale. Bertha was an avid card player and enjoyed a challenge with her Pinochle card group on Saturdays. Other hobbies were crochet and word search puzzles. She also loved family gathering with games, and her daily lunch time with her friends at the Senior Center. Bertha is survived by her two daughters, Karon Wagoner of Albuquerque, NM and Beverley (Paul) Reuland of Scottsbluff and step-daughter Micki (Jim) Swartzkopf of Gering, her grandchildren Tory Wagoner, Cassie Calderon and Nicholas (Brandi) Porter all of Scottsbluff, Nikki Reiners of Aurora, CO, Kimberley Wiley of Albuquerque, NM, and JoDee Dike- (Derek) Johnson and Jeanne Dike, both of Fremont, CA. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, her sister Ruth Messersmith (Tony) Yosso of Gering, sisters in law Peggy Harris of Gering and Yvonne Hoffman of Scottsbluff, as well as her life long friend and hairdresser Delight Pugsley. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, two sisters, two brothers, one granddaughter, one baby grandson and one step-son.
