Bio

John C. Newton beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, known as "PaPa" to all his grandchildren, peacefully departed this life in Idalou, Wednesday, April 13, 2005, at the age of 92. He was born Aug. 15, 1912 in Lubbock County to the late John C. and Emma Clay Newton. John graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Georgia Marie Bryan Feb. 20, 1938 in Avery. John was employed by the Army at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in Arkansas from 1942-1944, by Continental Supply Co. for five years and by Unit Rig and Equipment of Tulsa, Okla. He moved to Lubbock County in 1952 from Tulsa to the home place to farm. John also served on the Liberty Gin and Idalou Co-op Gin Boards. He was a member of the Idalou United Methodist Church. John enjoyed fishing and hunting. Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Georgia of Idalou; a son, John Charles Newton III and wife Betty of Arlington; a daughter, Rita Marie Kelley and husband Gerald of Abernathy; two grandchildren, Amanda Rader and husband Randy of Yukon, Okla., and Matt Kelley and wife Laura of Abernathy; four great-grandchildren, Haley and Zane Rader, and Hannah and Beth Kelley. He will be greatly missed by numerous surviving nieces and nephews and other family members. Celebration of Life Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday April 16, at the Idalou United Methodist Church with the Rev. Louis Schaap officiating and the Rev. David Ceballos assisting. Interment will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Idalou.
