Bio

Phyllis Ann Gerik, 60, of Waco, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013, in Temple. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Elder Sharon Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Phyllis was born in Waco, Texas, to Edwin E. and Dolores Ann (Karlik) Gerik. In 1971, she graduated from Reicher High School in Waco. She attended McLennan Community College and Baylor University as well. Phyllis worked for the Texas Workforce Commission in Waco as a Tax Auditor for 18 years, until her retirement in 1996. She enjoyed bargain hunting, flower arranging, crafts, collecting coins and nutcrackers, watching Astros baseball, and was always planning parties. Phyllis was also an avid University of Texas fan. She especially loved spending time with her family. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Edwin E. Gerik. Survivors include her daughters, Melanie Fordyce and husband, Jerry, of Houston, and Leslie Nelson and husband, Mark, of Austin; grandchildren, Emma Leslie and James Edwin "Jed" Fordyce; her mother, Dolores Gerik, of Waco; and many other relatives and friends.
