Bio

LaVerne Bailey, 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at Cottonwood House in Columbus. The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 10, 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Ritter officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 - 10:30 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. LaVerne L. Bailey was born August 27, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri. His parents were Richard and Ruth (Louis) Bailey. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1946. On August 20, 1946, LaVerne was united in marriage to Dorothy Mohrman in Columbus. They farmed between Monroe and Platte Center until 1957 when they moved to Columbus. LaVerne went to work for Behlens where he worked for several years. In 1965, LaVerne went to work for Loup Public Power. He continued to work for Loup as an operator at the power house until his retirement in 1990. After Dorothy passed away in 1993, Laverne married Sharlan Hanson Siems on March 6, 1999. LaVerne is survived by: Son: Dr. Dana (Nancy) Bailey of Columbus, NE Grandchildren: Cara (Scott) Barnett of Columbus, NE Justin (Amy) Bailey of Tulare, CA Great Grandchildren: Anisten, Blake, and Reese Barnett Brother: Eldon (Joan) Bailey of Salina, KS LaVerne was preceded in death by: Parents: Richard & Ruth Bailey First Wife: Dorothy Bailey Second wife: Sharlan Bailey Daughter: Gina Askildson Grandson: Joshua D. Bailey
