When Joseph William Fairbanks was born on July 22, 1869, in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England, his father, Joseph William Fairbanks Sr, was 38 and his mother, Sarah Rogers Fairbanks was 44. (She died in 1873.) Joe and several siblings and his father and stepmother Emily emigrated to the US in about 1882. He married Louisa Sophia Snyder on October 19, 1897, in Burlington, Iowa. They had two children during their marriage---- Margaret Pansy Fairbanks Sylvester and Ruth Fairbanks Kurtz. He died on December 6, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa, at the age of 78, and was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery; Burlington, Iowa.
