Bio

Victoria- Pauline Duderstadt was born August 7, 1922 to Edward and Sophie Machac and was raised in Six Mile outside Port Lavaca. Growing up she had to help in the fields and with household chores. She and her siblings had to walk to school something common in those days. She played volleyball and basketball for the Sandcrabs and was the only sibling in her family to graduate. She married Lee Roy Duderstadt on January 22, 1942 and moved to the Schroeder area. They had two daughters, Laura and Virginia. She enjoyed visiting with fanily and they always looked forward to her dewberry pies, tea cakes as her mother called them (actually a sugar cookie), poppyseed and a cinnamon pecan strudel (Grandma's worm). She was preceded in death by parents, husband, daughter Laura, sisters Ruby Duderstadt, Margie Kohl and brother Edward Machac. Pauline enjoyed gardening and still had a small garden when she was in her eighties. She enjoyed reading and would burn the midnight oil reading the Victoria Advocate from cover to cover. She was a member of the "Busy Bee" quilters for several years where she made several new friends. She enjoyed piecing and hand quilting in her spare time at home. Pauline crocheted lap throws for her grandchildren and even made king size bedspreads for her daughters. Now that was a lot of stitching. She was employed at Schroeder Mercantile for about fifty years until they closed the store. This was a country store that sold almost everything: groceries, refreshments, hardware, lumber, posts, feed, pipe. She could cut a length of pipe and put threads on it for you; help you find what you needed to fix your windmill or electrical problem, load your feed; sell you a cold drink (maybe a beer to drink while relaxing in the back room). Pauline enjoyed visiting with all the customers and kept up with what was going on with everyone. This was something she really missed when they closed the store. Pauline and her husband were employed at Schroeder Hall. She sold you your ticket to get admission to the dance and her husband pinned it on you. Her daughter claims that she and her sister were raised on the dance floor as they had to go with their parents to all the dances. Not much to complain about unless all their friends went somewhere else and they had to stay there. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Grace Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Coletoville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Grace Funeral Home. Published by the Victoria Advocate, November 30, 2016
