Bio

J. C. McFarland, 90, of Caldwell passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2013 at his home in Caldwell. Mr. McFarland was born May 3, 1922 in Gause, Texas to Claude P. and Elizabeth (Mitchell) McFarland. He married Hazel Christine Brod on June 24, 1946 in Wharton, Texas. This union was blessed with four children. During WWII, he served in the US Army 83rd Infantry Div. in France, Luxenbourg, Belgium and Germany and was part of the latter stages of D-Day invasion of June 1944 and received a Purple Heart Medal, a Bronze Star Medal and achieved rank of Corporal the while participating in five campaigns in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater. He was a longtime member of Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church. He was retired from Champion Paper Company in Pasadena where he served as a millwright for 34 years. He enjoyed cattle ranching, camping, fishing and spending time with his family and his dog, Fred. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Hazel McFarland; his parents and a grandson, James McFarland, Jr. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James and Barbara McFarland of Caldwell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Claudia and Larry Krenek and Deborah and Mike Lawrence all of Caldwell and Patricia and David Lawrence of College Station; 16 grandchildren; Michael McFarland, David McFarland, Thomas McFarland, Terrence McFarland, Cory McFarland, Ally Borrego, John McBurnett, Jason McBurnett, Jeremy Krenek and wife, Kelli, James Andrews, Lori Toole and husband, Steve, Joanna Vaughn and companion, Jeremiah Davidson, Lindsey Lay, Caleb Vaughn, Kristi Tanner and Bradley Tanner; 15 great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, an aunt, Eloise Smith and numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. Services are planned for Wednesday, March 20 at 10 am at Macedonia-Hix Baptist Church with Rev. Don Hancock officiating. Burial will follow in the Hix Cemetery. The family will receive guest from 5 pm until 8 pm Tuesday evening at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell. Pallbearers will be John McBurnett, Jason McBurnett, Jeremy Krenek, James Andrews, Bradley Tanner and Douglas Telg. Arrangements by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home of Caldwell.
