Audubon Centennial History Book 1878-1978, page 8B: "Andrew Chris Nelson--Andrew Chris Nelson was born August 25, 1886, southeast of Exira, the son of A.C. Nelson and Julianne Marie Pedersen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended school in Hamlin township, Elk Horn High School and College, and Grandview College in Des Moines. He married Bertha M. Nelson of Brayton, 11 December 1912, at Bertha's mother's home three miles northwest of Brayton, Audubon County, Iowa. Bertha was born January 7, 1891, the daughter of Nick A. Nelson and Christena Moller. They farmed west of Exira. They became the parents of four children: Rosa, Danzel, Violet, and Elaine. Andrew stayed on the farm following his wife's death in 1959, until 1968 when he moved to Audubon. The family were members of St. John's Lutheran Church, west of Exira. Andrew and Bertha transferred to the Exira Lutheran Church in 1959. Andrew was an active community worker. He served over 40 years as secretary of St. John's Church, Farm Bureau member over 50 years, 27 years on the Exira Creamery board, on Farm Program from 1930-1962, as township assessor for 27 years, and on the township election board, as well as raising purebred Poland China hogs, until he retied from farming. He died in 1977."
