1515. Shoaf, John F. Private, Carolina Rangers Company B, 10th Virginia Cavalry Regiment John was born to Jacob and Susan Hinkle Shoaf. John worked as a farmer and a miller in northern district of Davidson County, and, in 1845 he married Catherine Leonard. John and Catharaine would have three children; Richmond (1848), Hambrick (1857), and Robert (1861), before John volunteered for service in Davie County on October 29, 1861. He was sent to Danville, Virginia, hospital to recover from a bout of Rheumatism on January1, 1863. John returned to service in February 1863 and was reported present until sent to the hospital with another complaint at Scotsville, Virginia, on April 10, 1863/ He returned to service in June 1963 and was reported present through August 1864. John was paroled at Greensboro, North Carolina, on May 1, 1865. After the war, John lived as a successful farmer in the Macedonia area until his death on October 6, 1901. He is buried at Macedonis United Methodist Church.
