Thanks to contributor #47426837; York News-Times (NE) - March 23, 2005 Deceased Name: Rose Gabel Stromsburg resident, 105 Rose Gabel, 105, of Stromsburg, Ne. died Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Osceola with Father James Cooper officiating. Visitation was held Tuesday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the church. Interment is in Shelby Sacred Heart Cemetery. Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola had charge of arrangements. Rose was born on the family farm northeast of Shelby Sept. 11, 1899 to Herman and Monica Selzer Alt and was baptized at Shelby Catholic Church. She married John Edmund Gabel April 4, 1923 at Sacred Heart Church in Shelby. Following marriage, Rose remained home as a housewife. First years of marriage the couple lived a few miles east of Stromsburg. Rose lived in Polk County her entire life. Rose was a very creative person and a excellent seamstress, making clothes for her children, as well as enjoying crocheting, tatting, playing cards and reading. She loved to dance and square dance. She was known in the neighborhood for her apple klizla along with her other specialty kuchen. Rose was also handy with woodworking. She was a member of Busy Bells Extension Club, Sacred Heart Alter Society and a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelby. They had six children: Lorraine Klein Harbour and Dolores (Paul) Meister of Osceola, Arnold (Ingrid) Gabel of York, Eleanor (Richard) Eickmeier of Benedict, Max (Rosalie) Gabel of Shelby and Norman (Karen) Gabel of Osceola. She had 18 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by husband, John Edmund Gabel, June 5, 1972; seven brothers and sisters, Aurelia Bernt, Frank Alt, Emil Alt, Minnie Alt, Sophie Schaf, Marie Alt and Fredrick (Fritz) Alt.
