Martha E. David Allen Messbarger (March 28, 1920 - March 6, 2013) ~`~ * ~`~ Martha E Allen-Messbarger JOPLIN, MISSOURI: Martha E. Allen–Messbarger, age 92 passed away at 1:15 am, Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at her home following an illness. She was born March 28, 1920 in Granger, TX. Her parents were Emil and Freda (Kronovich) David. She moved to the Galena, KS - Joplin, MO area in 1943. She was a member of St Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Joplin, MO. She had also been a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church Galena, KS where she was involved in the Altar Society. She was a seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cooking. She married John L. Allen on July 4, 1943 in Taylor, TX. He passed away May 12, 1997. She then married Bill Messbarger in August, 1999. He died in 2005. She was also preceded in death by one son, Randall Allen (3/31/1975), and 8 siblings. Surviving are three daughters, Marilyn (and Melvin) James, Boring, OR, Phyllis (and Rich) Vaughan, Joplin, MO, and Becky (and Bill) Moody, Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Shannon Stansberry, Mahalley Allen-Turner, Randa Allen, Lori Ramsey, and Kylie Rogers; 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank David, Round Rock, TX; and two sisters, Margie Vanacek, and Alice Heselmeyer, both of Taylor, TX. A Rosary Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 pm, Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. The family will receive friends afterward until 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 11, 2013 at St Peter the Apostle Church. The Celebrant will be Fr. J. Friedel. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS. Allen, 76, 2426 Picher Ave., who died Monday, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Galena, Kan. The Rev. Daniel Mulvihill and the Rev. Charles Middleton will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena. Pallbearers will be Leon Aupperle, David Swaney, Charles Schwartz, Bill Lucchi, Bill Hall and Ray Holden. Members of the Galena Volunteer Fire Department will be seated as a group. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena. Messbarger, age 81, 2426 Picher, Joplin, died Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, 2005, at Joplin Health Care, Joplin, following an illness. Mr. Messbarger was born May 23, 1924, at Burlington Junction, Mo. His parents were Albert A. and Mary Bell (McClaren) Messbarger. He had lived most of his life in Lowell, Kan., and Joplin. He worked as a truck driver for 33 years with Yellow Transit and was a self-employed rancher. He was a member of St Peters Catholic Church, Joplin, and was in the Knights of Columbus. He was a Navy veteran of World War II from 1944 to 1946, serving on the USS Yorktown. He received two battle stars in the Asiatic Pacific and one star for the Philippine Liberation in addition to the Victory Medal. He was married to Nadine Stafford on Oct. 23, 1943, in Hiawatha, Kan. She died Jan. 7, 1992. He then married Martha David Allen on Aug. 7, 1999, at Joplin. She survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Tom (wife Barbara) Messbarger, Diamond, Mo., and William (wife Alta) Messbarger, Grove, Okla.; two daughters, Pamela Messbarger, Joplin, and Mary Streesman, Farnham, Va.; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Ray, Joplin, Becky Moody, Austin, Texas, and Marilyn James, Sandy, Ore.; two brothers, Jack (wife Diane) Messbarger, Georgetown, Texas, and Darrell Messbarger, Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Joan (Howard) Squire, Kansas City, Virginia Green, Mesa, Ariz., and Evelyn Carmichael, St. Joseph, Mo.; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Three brothers, Albert Messbarger, Morris Messbarger and Bud Messbarger; and one sister, Florence Clark, preceded him in death. Rosary prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, Kan. The family will receive friends following the service. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Peters Catholic Church, Joplin. Monsignor Steven Schneider will be the celebrant.
