Bio

John L. Nelson, 89, a pioneer resident of Shamrock, died at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, December 27, in Shamrock General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 28, in the Shamrock Church of Christ with Minister Ralph Weinhold, Jr., officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Valta Tarbet, Bryce Clay, Dr. R.M. Barkley, Vernon Tarbet, Coy Clay and Melvin Clancy. Interment was in Shamrock Cemetery with Richerson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mr. Nelson was a native Texas, born June 4, 1881, in Hunt County. He was married December 24, 1905, in Johnson County to Miss Stella May Ince.He moved to Shamrock in 1912, and had resided here since that time with the exception of 20 years, from 1936 until 1956, when he made his home in Carson County. Mr. Nelson was a retired rancher-farmer and formerly operated a dairy two miles south of Shamrock. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include: his wife, Stella May, of Shamrock; five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Agan of Shamrock, Mrs. R.L. Shannon of Shamrock, Mrs. J.A. Carithers of Bay Town, Mrs. Homer Glasgow of Mangum, Okla. and Mrs. Bill Shockley of Dumas; a son, J.L. Nelson, Jr. of Paramount, Calif, seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. J.H. Hudson of Fort Worth. Shamrock Texan December 31, 1970
