Former Kansas City resident and Trenton, Missouri native, Dorothy Ann Whitfield, passed away at her home in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, July 10, 2010. No services are planned at this time as Ms. Whitfield donated her body to the University of Arizona for medical research. Ms. Whitfield was born in Trenton, Missouri on December 14, 1930, to Ora Paul and Edith May Silver Whitfield. After attending Trenton Missouri Junior College, she obtained a degree in 1955 in chemistry from the College of St. Teresa (now Avila University) in Kansas City, Missouri. After a career as a medical technologist, she became a successful entrepreneur and the owner of C&I Products, a distributor of medical and clinical supplies. She served Avila University as a trustee from 1982-1997, and generously supported the construction of the Whitfield Center on Avila's campus. She remained dedicated to her alma mater, the students and staff, particularly Sister Olive Louise Dallavis, CSJ, President Emerita of Avila, throughout her life. She retired in 1985, and then moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1999. Ms. Whitfield is survived by one sister, Edith Long, of Kansas City, Missouri; nephews Marshall Humphreys of Ulman, Missouri, Bill Berry of St. Louis, Missouri, Wayne Whitfield of Des Moines, Iowa, Michael Whitfield of Belleville, Kansas, and Dorsey Dean of Trenton, Missouri; nieces Marjorie Ann Howard of Tuscumbia, Missouri, Susan Grossman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dora Marcus of Leon, Iowa, Joyce Barron of Harrisonville, Missouri, Beth Rives of St. Louis, Missouri, Patricia Liles of Rosenberg, Texas, Beverly Pfeiffer of Sedalia, Missouri, Kelly Myers and Jenny Dean- Batson of Trenton, Missouri; additional great-nieces and nephews and countless friends.
