MRS. ELMER TRACEY PASSED TO BEYOND MONDAY EVENING The Homer Enterprise 4-25-1924 Altho all that friends, relatives and physicians could do in administering aid in the recovery of her illness, it proved of no avail for the Grim Reaper who is no respecter of person descended Monday night about eleven o’clock and carried away the life of Mrs. Elmer Tracey. All thru her long illness she was hopeful to the end, and patient with her ailment and to those giving succor. The home missionaries have played a great and prominent mission in this case and they—the Pythian Sisters and Klansmen—have certainly proven their alertness to both the deceased and her husband. Funeral services were held yesterday morning at 10 o’clock from the Methodist church conducted by A. H. Flagge, the pastor. Pall bearers were Walter Worthen, Jennings Burley, Otis Robertson, Earl Gibson, Homer Johnson and N. G. Foreman. Many floral tributes adorned the bier. Burial was at G. A. R. cemetery. The following obituary was read at the service: “In the death of our friend and neighbor, Mrs. Olive Tracey we are brought again face to face with the inscrutable ways of Providence, and taught that where we cannot understand we still may trust all to the wisdom and goodness of our Heavenly Father. Those who dwelt with her in the sacred relations of the home, and the friends who watched her moving about in the midst of her home life would declare that it was imperative that she remain where she was so happy and useful. But He who knows the tomorrows of life as well as its yesterdays has willed otherwise, and it is for us to say submissively, :The Lord gave, the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” Olive, daughter of William S. and Janette Bradford was born in Edgar County, Illinois on November 16, 1893. When a small child the family moved to Park County, Indiana. She was united in marriage to Elmer Tracey on November 13, 1913, and three children came to gladden the home. Since her marriage her home has been in Homer. In her home she was a faithful wife, and a true mother. In her young womanhood Mrs. Tracey gave her heart to God and united with the Nazarene church in Montesuma, Indiana, where her membership remained until God called her into His own presence. She is survived by her husband, her three children, Ross, Herman and baby, Betty Jane; her father and mother, and five brothers and sisters, Joseph, Cyrus and Mrs. Rachel McCallester, of Hillsdale, Indiana, her brother, John, and sister, Mrs. Alice Light, who with her parents live in Homer. She has been a patient sufferer for several weeks and on April 21, 1924 she passed into that land where sickness and pain are unknown. Her age was 30 years, 5 months and 6 days. Not now, but in the coming years, It may be in the better land, We’ll read the meaning of these tears, And then, yes then, we’ll understand. So trust in God thru all thy days; Fear not; for He will hold thy hand Tho dark the path still sing and pray; Sometime, sometime, we’ll understand. (transcribed by Homer Historical Society)
