Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Thursday, 4 November 1909, page 1 MR. HOSEK DEAD Mr. John Hosek, a well known resident of this city for thirty years, passed away this morning at 7:15 at his home, 321 West Seventh street, having been sick since last April. Death resulted from multiple sarcoma. Mr. Hosek was born in Bohemia, Austria, July 24, 1862, and was 47 years of age and located in Iowa. Later he came to this city. He was employed in the carpet department at Wolbachs store for seventeen years and then worked in this department at Martin's store for a good many years. Mr. Hosek leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss, aged from 23 to 9 years. The deceased was a member of the Modern Brotherhood and American Order of Protection. The funeral will take place next Sunday, the exact hour to be announced when relatives are heard from. +++++++++++++++ Grand Island (Nebraska) Daily Independent Wednesday, 10 November 1909, page 5 The funeral of John Hosek, one of Grand Island's oldest and most highly respected citizens, took place Sunday afternoon from St. Mary's church and was very largely attended. The following relatives from out of town were present: Frank Hosek, Albert Hosek of Ord; Mrs. Kathrine Valesk, of Arcadia; Mary and Rudolph Hosek, of Ravenna; Mrs. Prochaska and son, of Cairo; Mr. Ambrose, of Ravenna; Mrs. E. W. Winternute, of Cozad; Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Finderson, of Persia, Ia. ========================= Wife and mother of children appears to be Jennie Fenderson Hosek (1868-1952).
