Wood River, published in Wood River, Nebraska Thursday, 30 August 1951, page 1 & 2 Cairo Man Fatally Hurt in Accident (Note: Edited for length) One man was killed and another critically injured in a one car traffic accident six miles north and a half mile east of Cairo in Howard county about 2:30 Sunday afternoon. Tony Krolikowski, 68, of Cairo died Sunday night in a Grand Island hospital from injuries received in the crash. Ben Woitaszewski, 43, also of Cairo, is in critical condition. Other injured in the crash included Mrs. Krolikowski, 64; Mrs. Woitaszewski, 41, and the Woitaszewski's three children, Ronnie and Donnie, 2, and Mary Ann 3. . . . Funeral services for Mr. Krolikowski was held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning in Blessed Sacrament Catholic church. The Rev. Anthony Egging, pastor of the church, was celebrant of the requiem mass. Burial was in the Grand Island cemetery. Mr. Krolikowski was born in Posen, Poland, Jan. 14, 1881. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Krolikowski, came to the United States when he was five years old and settled on a farm near Ashton. He was married to Miss Magdalena Piontkowski at Ashton June 11, 1907. After farming near Ashton and Loup City for many years, they moved to their present farm southeast of Cairo. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Edmund of Alda, Raymond of Cairo, Leo of Omaha and Henry at home; five daughters, Mrs. Ben Woitszewski of Cairo, Mrs. Louis Grudzinski of Grand Island, Mrs. Leland Johnson of Lincoln, Miss Tena Krolikowski of Palo Alto, Calif., and Mrs. Robert Thompson of Omaha; two brothers, Pete of Wood River and Stanley of Kimball; three sisters, Mrs. Lawrence Spotanski and Mrs. Ben Wroblewski, both of Loup City, and Mrs. Margaret Swinarski of Omaha; and 20 grandchildren.
