Thanks, contributor #46777470 David A. Lux, age 87, of Shelby, Nebraska, died January 31, 2013 at Holmes Lake Manor in Lincoln. A celebration of life for David A. Lux, at the Gresham Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Nellessen officiating. Organist was Dorothy Farley. Soloist was Ron Svehla singing "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden." Congregational hymns were "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "I'll Fly Away." Pallbearers were Chad Vrbka, Trent Svehla, Justin Svehla, Chris Tietmeyer, Bill Day and William Tietmeyer. Interment was in the Blue Ridge Cemetery with Dubas Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements. David was born December 12, 1925 at Helvey, Nebraska to Vern and Mabel Beierle. Due to the early death of his mother (29), David was chosen to make a family complete with parents Ethel (Beierle) and Albert Lux at the age of 5-1/2. David was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Waco on September 27, 1928. He attended Hackberry country school and graduated from Gresham High School in 1943. On February 23, 1946, Dave was united in marriage to Ramona P. Thomas in Osceola. To this union three children were born. The family resided on a farm north of Blue Ridge Cemetery where David was a servant of the soil. At age 50 health issues resulted in retirement from his vocation, remaining on the farm until 1998 and then establishing residence in Shelby. He attended Wayland Congregational Church, transferred to the Gresham Presbyterian Church in 1958. He was an ordained Elder and served many years as a Trustee, and was active in Mariners. The family was a recipient of the AK-SAR-BEN Pioneer Family Award, and during his farming years he served as a committeeman on Polk Co. ASCS board, rural school board, Gresham school board, and was a past Grand of the Gresham IOOF Lodge. He enjoyed community activities, Nile Bridge Marathon, traveling, dancing, the Shelby birthday group at Ampride and especially his children and grandchildren's accomplishment and their sport activities. Survivors include his wife Ramona of Shelby; son Charles (Lori) Lux of Omaha; daughters Anne (Harry) Heath and Karen (John) Svehla both of Lincoln; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one step-granddaughter; two step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
