Hannibal Courier-Post (MO) - Friday, August 18, 2006 Deceased Name: Gus Pipkin Hannibal Aug. 8, 1914 - Aug. 16, 2006 HANNIBAL - Gus Pipkin, 92, of Hannibal, died at 7:37 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Hannibal Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Grand View Funeral Home in Hannibal. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55 will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 18, at the funeral home. Mr. Pipkin was born Aug. 8, 1914, in Crystal City to Samuel and Cecelia Pretzner Pipkin. He was married to Pearl Emmons on June 29, 1953, in Hannibal, and she passed away Aug. 3, 2000. Survivors include his sons, Billy Joe Pipkin of Alta, Ga., and James Pipkin of St. Louis; two daughters, Jenny (Gary) Mayfield of Dallas, Texas, and Bonnie Jensen of Hannibal; two sisters, Barbara (Earl) Woodson of Hannibal, and Dorothy Price of Harrisburg, Ill.; his grandchildren, Samantha Pipkin, James Augustus Pipkin, Gary Mayfield Jr. and Jared Link; and his great-grandchildren, Alexis Mayfield, Allison Mayfield, Ashley Pipkin, Emily Pipkin, and Lucas Pipkin. Mr. Pipkin was a construction worker for Union Local 424 for many years before he retired in 1976. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved to hunt and fish, and also loved to listen to Ernest Tubb music. He was a former member of the Eagles Club in Hannibal. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sylvester Pipkin; four brothers, George Pipkin, Ted Pipkin, Sylvester L. Pipkin and Harry Pipkin; and one sister, Mary Jane Martin. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
