Bio

Joel A. Squires, son of Asa Squires and Arah Jane Pitzer lived only 23 years, 11 months, and 28 days. He was a dashing young man with dark eyes, and planned to marry Virginia Harshberger (daughter of Joel and Sarah Harshberger) on his 24th birthday; instead, he became ill and died March 22, 1890 at his parents' home in Cove District. He was buried at Mt. Morris Cemetery on what was to have been his wedding day. Virginia later married Ed McIntosh. Joel's nephew Otto Squires has a tintype of Joel and Virginia, and Joel' funeral card. The funeral card, black with gold lettering, has a dove and a closed Bible and this verse:
