Bio

Lois Marie Korn, of Nampa, passed away peacefully at her home on January 21, 2013 after spending many days reminiscing with her children and grandchildren. Born on July 3, 1930 to Harry and Edna Lydon, Lois was raised in Belden, Nebraska on their family farm and often spoke about gas rationing and the never-ending chore of washing thousands of eggs to be shipped to the troops in World War II. She graduated from Belden High School in 1947. She met her future husband Paul Korn while visiting relatives in Nampa during the summer of 1946. He followed her back to Nebraska in 1947, and they were married on August 9, 1948. Paul and Lois made their home in Belden where Paul farmed with Lois' parents. After the birth of their first son, Jerry, they moved to Emmetsburg, Iowa in 1951. They continued to farm in Iowa and added their son Kenneth. Paul and Lois returned to Idaho in 1955 where they purchased a farm in northeast Nampa and began a dairy operation, Korncrest Farms. Two more sons, Richard and Lester, were added to the family. Lois spent countless hours milking cows, gardening and raising chickens and turkeys to help support her family. She made sure that her boys were active in Boy Scouts or 4H and learned the importance of a hard days work and family. In 1968, Lois gave birth to her precious daughter, Paula, who shared her love of the outdoors and horses. In her later years, Lois continued to keep busy with needlepoint, gardening and bragging about her grand and great-grandchildren. One of her favorite winter pastimes was scouring through the seed catalogs and planning her vegetable and flower gardens. This led to an overabundance of crops that she shared with anyone who happened to stop by. Lois is survived by her sister, Helen (Elmer) Friedel, of Emmetsburg, Iowa; sons, Jerry, Kenneth, Richard (Kim) and Lester (Carolyn); daughter, Paula (Casey) McMullen; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lois has joined her husband, Paul, in Heaven, who passed in 2006. We hope you are ready, Pops! Idaho Press-Tribune (Nampa, ID) - Thursday, January 24, 2013
