Bio

Marie Holweg passed to the Great Beyond Monday at 11:30 at her farm home here. She had been in good health up to the time of her death—heart trouble bringing her life to an end so sudden. She was born in Germany May 20, 1855, and in 1878 she became the wife of Mr. Holweg, who died a year and five days before her death. From Germany they moved to the United States and crossed the half-settled country to locate on their farm near Marion in 1894, seven years before this railroad was in operation and about six years before Marion was started. They made their home on the farm until death called them, their deaths being a little more than a year apart. She had been up and around that morning but as she felt tired she went to bed and had been there only a few minutes when she went into that lasting sleep—to rise no more. She leaves to mourn her death: Mrs. H. H. Bennett of Bowman, N. D., Mrs. H. C. Powell of Lansing, Mich., Emil and Emma Holweg and her grandchildren. Eight of her children died while they were infants. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock at the Peace Lutheran Church, Rev. Krengel reading the last rites, with a large number of neighbors and friends present to pay their last tribute to, this aged Pioneer. The pallbearers were as follows: John Rothenberger, Carl Leopold, Pius Elsner, John Knudsen, N. W. Schommer and A. B. Richards. Interment was made in the Lakeside Cemetery. The entire community extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives. Published in the Marion Sentinel, Marion, North Dakota, September 23, 1927. Submitted by Dennis C. Olson, #48363213
