Bio
The Marion community was called upon to mourn the departure of another of its pioneers in the death of Frederick Holweg who passed away early Tuesday morning, September 14 at the age of 75 years 10 months and 24 days. Frederick Holweg was born in Germany October 21, 1850 and came to North Dakota in the spring of 1891 settling on the NE ¼ of Section 8 Sheridan Township where he made his home until death. On February 20, 1878 he was united in marriage to Maria Zoll his surviving widow. Of his family of eight children have preceded him in death, while his wife and three daughters, Mrs. H. H. Bennett of Bowman, N.D., Mrs. H. C. Powell, of Dansville, Mich., and Emma who is at home, and one son, Emil who is also at home remain to mourn his death. Deceased apparently has been in good health until the past four months when he suffered from what was thought to be rheumatism until an examination was made and it was found to be cancer of the stomach. Funeral services were held in the Scandinavian Lutheran Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Wm. Krengel of St. John's German Lutheran Church conducting the services, speaking in both English and German languages. The pallbearers were Pius Elsner, John Knudson, John Schmitd, John Rothenberger, Christian Baertsch and Ben Winkelman. The remains were interred in the Lakeside Cemetery. The family and relatives have the sympathy of everyone in their hour of sorrow. Published in the Marion Sentinel, Marion, North Dakota, September 24, 1926.
