J.B. Watson, a former resident of Colton, died at his home at Lapwai, Idaho, Wednesday of last week and was buried at Lewiston Thursday afternoon. Mr. Watson was born in Kentucky 80 years ago, and came to the Pacific Northwest in the latter part of the 1880's locating at Colton, where he engaged in the general merchandise business until 1897. He was prominent in the civic affairs of the community, serving several terms on the city council, and was a leader in Democratic party politics. During the dull time following the panic of1893, his business was gradually diminishing until he disposed of the small stock and was interested in mining for a year or two. In 1897 he moved his family to Lapwai and opened a store which he managed with his sons until he retired on account of advanced age. There are many among the old timers here who remember J.B. Watson, and who sympathize with the widow and children. The Colton News-Letter, April 18, 1924 Colton, Whitman, Wash
