Thanks to contributor #48796369 Alfonso J. "Al" Augustyn, 84, of Loup City died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at the Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Revs. Reginald Urban and Andrew M. Augustyn will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service and Knights of Columbus rosary, Wednesday at the church. Peters Funeral Home of Loup City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Augustyn was born on June 26, 1915, northeast of Loup City to John and Mary (Gzehoviak) Augustyn. He attended District 31 School and Loup City High School and then farmed with his family. He married Alice M. Gudenrath on Oct. 29, 1940, in Loup City. The couple farmed in the Loup City area until their retirement. He enjoyed playing golf, umpiring baseball and being involved in civic organizations. He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church and was building committee president when the current church was built. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 5455 and Fourth Degree Assembly 1712, both of Loup City. He served on the rural fire district, rural ambulance, state Rural Electrification Administration and Farmers Home Administration boards. He was Loup Valley Rural Public Power District president and helped get the Loup City Golf Course built. He was a charter member of Elks Lodge 2371 of Ord and was an admiral in the Nebraska Navy. Survivors include his wife; three sons, James of Lincoln and Andrew and Arnold, both of Loup City; five daughters, Ellen (Mrs. Gene) Wood of Long Grove, Ill., Rita (Mrs. Roger) Goldfish of Ord, Mary (Mrs. Ron) Sporcic of Papillion, Vivian (Mrs. William) Howard of Lincoln and Carol (Mrs. Albert) Krueger of Gibbon; 16 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one brother, the Rev. Andrew M. Augustyn of Grand Island. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Leo, John, Stephen and Edward; four sisters, Kathryn Kaminski, Anna Sok, Helen Toczek and Barbara Augustyn; and four half sisters, Della Jaworski, Monica Sliva, Mary Golka and Nora McCarville.
