Bio

Larry Wayne Griesenbeck passed away on January 3, 2013 at Ennis Care Center. Larry was born on September 19, 1941 in Paige, Texas to Henry and Roberta Griesenbeck. Larry moved to Ennis as a small child from the Bastrop/Elgin area. He attended Ennis High School where he played football, ran track and graduated on May 17, 1960. He also attended Navarro College where he studied law enforcement. Larry was a member of the Fundamental Baptist Church, the American Legion, and a past member of the Ennis Gun Club, the National Rifle Association, and he worked as a volunteer of the "Send a Veteran to Washington Committee". He was a passionate and avid collector of World War II Memorabilia and was devoted to helping veterans. As a Vietnam Era Veteran, Larry served his country proudly in the United States Air Force. Larry worked at Gen Star roofing for over twenty years. He also worked for Sears, Frozen Food Express and Leggett and Platt. Larry also served as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Navarro County. Larry was also an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in his workshop. Larry is survived by his wife, Jerry, of Ennis; his Daughter Stephanie Pivec and husband Jim of Crowley, Texas; his son Lieutenant Commander John S. Griesenbeck and wife, Kari, of Okinawa, Japan; his daughter Carmen Hudechek and husband, Mark, of Whitney, Texas; his step-daughter Brenda Costello and husband, Mike, of Waxahachie, Texas; his step-son Randy Griesenbeck and wife, Tonya, of Corsicana, Texas. He is also survived by his grand children: Lauren Edwards, Samantha Zepeda, Alyssa McCary, Natalie Pivec, Stephen Dakota Griesenbeck, Mitchell Griesenbeck ,Alex Pivec, Jay Griesenbeck, Kaitlynn Griesenbeck, Dallas and Wylie Griesenbeck. He is also survived by his sister, Beverly Worthington, of Waxahachie, Texas and his brother, Harrell Griesenbeck, of Dallas, Texas. He has three nieces and one nephew, and various aunts, uncles and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Roberta Griesenbeck and one brother, Jerry Ray Griesenbeck. Larry will be deeply missed by his family and friends whom he loved very much. He will also be missed by his special friend, Joyce Bauch, who tirelessly loved and cared for him during his battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis, Texas with Rev. Gary Miller officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be John Stanley Schaffer, Ben Lewis Mueller, Dee Menefee, Alex Pivec, Michell Griesenbeck, Randy Menefee and Honorary pallbearer and dear friend, Garth Simmons. Interment will follow in Elm Branch Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the charity of your choice.
