Parents: Joseph Franklin and Mary Jane Robinette Wilson Spouse: Velma Moore Wilson OAKLEY QUENTIN WILSON 11 Apr 1919 - 17 Feb 2011 KINGSPORT - Oakley Quentin Wilson, 91, of Kingsport, passed away Thursday (Feb. 17, 2011) at James H. Quillen VA Hospital in Mountain Home, Tenn. Quentin was an automotive parts salesman for Holston Auto supply prior to retiring. He was a faithful member of Lynn Garden Baptist Church. Quentin was a former member of the Lynn Garden Optimist Club, and East Stone Gap Alumni. He was an avid golfer and began caddying at age 9 and later in life became a golfer and was known as being the biggest Lady Vols fan ever. Mr. Wilson served in the U.S. Army 1941-1945; he was in the First Army 116th infantry, 29th Division Cannon Company and D-Day Veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Velma Wilson; his parents, Joseph Franklin and Mary Jane Robinette Wilson; brother, Paul Wilson; sisters, Oma Powers and Norma Sergent. He is survived by his daughters, Cindy Blair and husband, Larry of Gate City, Va., and Martha Burleson and husband, Bill of Banner Elk, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin Blair and Olivia Blair of Gate City, Va., and Andrew Burleson of Banner Elk, N.C.; his sister, Opal Mullins of Big Stone Gap, Va.; along with his cat and special companion, Tigger, of the home.The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Lynn Garden Baptist Church, 301 May Avenue, Kingsport. A service will follow at 6 p.m. at the church with Pastor Michael Wrye and Pastor Jacob Willis officiating.A military graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Powell Valley Memorial Garden, Big Stone Gap, Va., with American Legion conducting the rites. Pallbearers will be Tom Gilbert, Dannie Kirk, Shane Kirk, Allen Rhoton, Charles Metcalf and Tom Mann.Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Lynn Garden Baptist Church. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is serving the Wilson family.
