Thanks to contributor #48763187 Gertrude "Gert" M. Meyer, 86, of Grand Island died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Gollaher Chapel of Trinity United Methodist Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery at Cairo. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 3 to 6, Monday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Mrs. Meyer was born Oct. 2, 1918, at St. Michael to Charles and Martha (Schlund) Schultz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, on Dec. 31, 1993. Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and a son-in-law, Jolene Nelson of Grand Island, Janice and Rodney Miller of Pinehurst, Texas; a brother, Dale Ondrak of Hazard, and a sister, Alyce Dethlefs of Ravenna. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Steve Miller, Mike Miller, Teri Smith, Shane Nelson, and Lance Nelson; and great-grandchildren, Austin, Risa, Kaylie, Logan, Cameron, Dawson, Allyson, Dustin, Cody, and Jake. Mrs. Meyer was raised on a farm near Sod Town and attended Pleasantview County School. She graduated from Cairo High School in 1935. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Meyer on June 14, 1939. Together they farmed near Cairo all of their married life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo. She enjoyed cooking, baking, dancing, flowers and most importantly spending time with her family. In addition to her husband. Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mildred; and two brothers, Herald and Don. A memorial fund will be established in her memory. Grand Island Independent - Jan 16, 2005.
