Barto Russell "Cotton" Collier, 94, was joyously reunited with his wife, Elizabeth, in heaven on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, at Waco Memorial Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Park. Viewing will be one hour prior to services. Cotton was born in Mooreville, Texas, to the late Oscar E. Collier and Ida Mae Collins Collier. After serving in the United States Army during World War II, Cotton worked for General Tire and Rubber Company for 35 years. Cotton was president of the United Rubberworkers Union (Local 312) for two terms. He was also a member of St. John's United Methodist Church of Waco. Cotton enjoyed the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Cotton married Ruby Gordon in 1940, and they had one daughter, Janice. Later, Cotton married Elizabeth Perry on Dec. 14, 1942, and they had one daughter, Theresa, and an adopted son, Russell. Cotton was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Collier; and seven brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son, Russell Allen Collier, of Oregon; daughters, Theresa Surley and Janice Derrickson, both of Clifton; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Campbell, of Austin; and other relatives and many friends.
