Ferdinand (Fritz) Mihulka of Columbus died Sunday, December 30th, 2012 at Columbus Golden Living Center after his battle with Alzheimers. Fritz Mihulka was born June 24, 1924 in Columbus, NE to Fred and Emma Mihulka. He grew up in Columbus Nebraska, with six brothers and sisters. He enlisted into the Coast Guard in 1942. He served for four years, serving several years overseas during World War II. He participated in numerous campaigns including Iwo Jima D day and Okinawa, and provided needed supplies soon after the atomic bombing in Nagasaki. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as Motor Machinist First Class. Fritz was a proud member of the VFW. He attended Columbus schools and worked in his fathers automotive service after the service, and later in the motel and filling-station businesses. On August 17, 1948, he married Genevieve Dubsky at St. Marys Church in Schuyler. They built a home in Columbus where they resided for 64 years. Fritz was a loving husband and father to his six children. He deeply loved his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His passions were golf,dancing and fishing. He loved to go dancing most every Saturday. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, volunteering as an usher for many years.
