James E. Birkner, 86, of Bay City, died June 9, 2001 at the Bay Villa Nursing Center in Bay City following a long illness. James was born in Manshack, Texas on August 8, 1914 to parents William Henry and Theresa Siebert Birkner but was a longtime resident of Bay City where he worked for many years as a mason and bricklayer. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft workers for over 50 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City where he was a member of the Wesley Class Mens Sunday School. He is survived by: a son and daughter-in-law, James T. and Janet I. Birkner of Bay City; sisters, Dollie Fritts of Austin and Florence McGuire of Woodville; a grandson, James Erick Birkner of Dallas; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Interment will follow at Cedarvale. Pallbearers will be Otha Birkner, Ottis Birkner, Joe Birkner, Jr., Daniel Perez, Rod Foyt and Brian Brussleback. Members of the Wesley Class will be Honorary Pallbearers.
