Bio

Carl Donivan Pearson, 87, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998. He was born in Donley County, Texas. He married Velma Hilburn in 1928 at Lamesa, TX. He worked as a rancher, farmer and cowboy and had lived near Lamesa, TX, until 1942 when he moved his family to Crossroads. A year later, they moved to the Flying M Ranch south of Elida. He later owned several trucks and worked hauling hay and cattle. He also had driven a school bus route and rural mail route. For several years he owned and operated a service station and grocery in Elida. He had been retired about 15 years. Carl was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge in Elida for a number of years. He served as town mayor of Elida, NM, for two terms in the 1970s. He is survived by his wife, Velma (Hilburn); two daughters, Janice Morgan of Lake Arthur, NM, and Peggy Jones of Portales, NM; a sister, Claudene Wood of Delta, CO; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
