Our loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many was called to her eternal home on Sunday, November 25, 2012. She passed away at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont, Nebraska. Viola Esther (Herbolsheimer) Jorgensen was born June 23, 1919 in rural Pierce, Nebraska to Frederick and Maria (Krueger) Herbolsheimer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Pierce, Nebraska. She attended Pierce Parochial and Public Schools. She was a nanny in Norfolk, NE for several years. She moved to Fremont, Nebraska in 1940 where she was employed at the former O.P. Skaggs grocery store. She married Ernest Jorgensen on October 14, 1943 in Fremont, Nebraska. After their marriage, the couple lived and farmed on the family farm southwest of Hooper, Nebraska until they moved to Fremont in 1969. She was then employed by Interiors by Joan and the Interior Place until she retired in 1982. Her husband died February 27, 1994. Viola was a former member of Bluffs Trinity Lutheran Church, northwest of Fremont, where she was an active member of the W.E.L.C.A.(Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), a choir member, and Bible School teacher. In 1998, she became a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont and was active in their W.E.L.C.A., a member of Joy-Hope Circle and the church quilting group, providing many quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. She also served as Altar Guild Chairman. Viola was an avid seamstress. She also enjoyed gardening and any type of craftwork. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and Fremont Area Medical Center for 29 years. Most of all, she cherished the time she spent with her family. Survivors include: her daughter Diane (and husband Paul) Peterson; daughter-in-law Kay Jorgensen, all of Fremont; step-daughter Patty Pelch of Anchorage, Alaska; four grandchildren, Roger Jorgensen of Hooper, NE; Brenda (and husband Mick) Brabec of Fremont; Jeffrey (and wife Paula) Peterson of Wayne, NE; Timothy Peterson (and fiancé Rachel Robbins) of Elkhorn; and five step-grandchildren. She had two great-grandchildren Kassie Brabec and Via Peterson; and ten step-great grandchildren. She was also survived by one sister, LaVern Lehnert of Bloomfield, Nebraska; and one sister-in-law Edna Herbolsheimer of Pierce, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest, her parents, one son Gary, in 2007, four brothers, one sister, four sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws. The funeral will be 2 PM Thursday (Nov. 29th) at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont with the Reverend John Plowman officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont with the family greeting friends from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont, NE. Memorials are suggested St. Timothy Lutheran Church.
