Former Ridgecrest, CA resident Donald Leon Kennedy passed away Monday, Dec 6, 2004 from a stroke. Mr. Kenney was born Aug 4, 1928 in Arthur, NE. He spent several years in Japan and in the Korean War. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he settled in California, at first mining, then working at the Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake, CA from 1957 to 1978. He then moved with his wife to Slater, MO where they have been for 21 years. He is survived by his wife, Marge Kennedy of Slater, MO and since moved to Ridgecrest, CA; son Michael W. Kennedy of TX; daughters Vicki Young of Ridgecrest, CA; Karen Grammond of Ridgecrest, CA; Wanda Yates of Alaska; brothers, Maurice Kennedy, Clifford Kennedy and Jimmy Kennedy; sister Sharon Scarbrough; grandchildren Jerry Lanigan, Arron Grammond, Amy Grammond, Stacey Young, Jesse Young, Nicole Kennedy, Dennis Kennedy and Crystal Kennedy. ∼ Donald L. Kennedy, 76, of rural Slater, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.Cremation. No local services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.Born Aug. 4, 1928, in Arthur, Neb., he was the son of the late Richard E. and Alice Todd Kennedy. On Nov. 11, 1954, in Las Vegas, Nev., he married Marjorie M. Durham, who survives of the home. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a retired rigger with the China Lake Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, Calif.Additional survivors include one son, Michael Kennedy of Nolandville, Texas; three daughters, Karen Grammond of Ridgecrest, Calif., Wanda Yates of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Victoria Young of Ridgecrest; four brothers, Charles Kennedy and James Kennedy, both of the state of Oklahoma, Maurice Kennedy and Clifford Kennedy, both of the state of California; one sister, Sharon Scarbourgh of the state of California; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
