Washington Harrison Lovil Co. C, 3rd AL Confederate Cavalry, CSA Born in Georgia; son of Wiley S. and Mary Elizabeth (Griffin) Lovil; married 1st on 3 Oct 1861 in DeKalb County, Alabama, to Cynthia Ann Hill (c1837-c1880), 2nd: 24 Oct 1882 in Saint Clair County, Alabama, to Sarah Jane Hill (c1847-1895 - sister of Cynthia), and 3rd on 29 Apr 1896 in Faulkner County, Arkansas, to Aletha Priscilla Griggers (1877-1948), daughter of Floyd Lafayette Griggers (1845-1896) and Georgia Ann Kincey (1847-1900); moved to Faulkner County, Arkansas, bet 1888 and 1896. Washington Harrison "Wash" Lovil served in Company C, 3rd Alabama Confederate Cavalry. He enlisted on 25 Oct 1861 and was wounded in the Battle of Fort Donalson, Tennessee, on 3 Feb 1863. He was shot in the lower jaw and neck, with a portion of the jaw bone and muscle of the neck destroyed. He applied for a pension on 5 Jun 1893. His third wife, Aletha, who was 40 years younger, applied for a widow's pension after his death. Information on the two came from these files. from the Log Cabin Democrat, 14 Feb 1907 HOLLAND . . . Uncle Wash Lovil died Sunday night at 10 o'clock. He was a Mason and Odd Fellow at Holland. He leaves a young wife with three small children, also four grown sons and two daughters, with a host of friends to mourn his departure. He served in the civil war and received wounds that affected him through life.
