Bio

Date: 1/15/2005 at 16:05:40 From the Eddyville Tribune dated Friday, February 27, 1914. PASSING OF MRS. C. PARROTT Mrs. C. Parrott, who had been confined to her bed for six weeks, suffering from injuries sustained by a fall, passed away at her home on South Fourth street at 8:30 o'clock Friday evening, February 20, 1914, having attained the age of eighty-one years, nine months and six days. Christina Powell, daughter of John and Mary Powell, was born in Fayette county, Ohio, on May 14, 1832. In the year 1850 she came with other relatives to Jefferson county, Iowa, and was united in marriage to James S. Parrott in that county on January 25, 1851. Not long after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Parrott came to Eddyville and settled on the old family homestead four and one-half miles southeast of Eddyville in Columbia township, and she had been a resident of the township ever since except for a few months when they resided at Chillicothe. Her husband passed away on January 11, 1892, and ten years later, in April, 1902, Mrs. Parrott moved to town and had since been a resident of the city. Mrs. Parrott was one of a family of six children, she having one brother and four sisters as well two half-brothers. The survivors of this family are: one brother, Wm. Powell of Benedict, York county, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Rice of Paulding, Ohio and Mrs. Naomi Kessel of Altoons, Kansas; and one half-brother, Uriah Powell of Arkansas. Mrs. Parrott herself was the mother of five children, three sons and two daughters: Wm. A., born in 1851 and died in 1875 Nancy E., born in 1854 and died in 1855. John W., who was born in 1857 and who lives between Eddyville and Dudley. [Transcriber's Note - John Wesley Parrott married Henrietta Burgess on April 26, 1899 in Wapello county, Iowa.] George C., who was born in 1860 and who remained at home with his mother and cared for her till death releived her suffering. Mary E., born in 1871 and died in 1876. Besides the two sons, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Parrott is survived by one grandchild, Miss Edna Parrott. The subject of this sketch united with the M.E. church in early life and remained a member of that denomination till the end. She had been in failing health for a number of years. On January 8th, last, while going about her home, she fell and sustained a fracture of the hip which hastened the end.
