Bio

Reese Painter Leslie Reese Painter, age 91, passed away peacefully November 12, 2004 at his home in Nephi, Utah. He was born May 24, 1913 in Levan, Utah, to Charles Alfred and Persis Hughgene Rudd Painter. He spent his early years in Levan and attended the Levan School. He worked with his father on the family farm and also on the WPA. In 1941 he was one of the first young men drafted into the Army from the Juab area. He served in WWII as a Medic at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. He married Maxine Sperry on June 13, 1942 at Fort Lewis, Washington. Upon his release from the Army, they returned to Levan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on June 13, 1959. He was one of the original founders of the Painter Motor Company, which was started in 1945. He and his brother Fred worked together for many years. Painter Motor is still in business today. Reese worked on the Utah State Road for fourteen years. After his retirement he continued to farm, raise cattle and restore vintage cars. One of his favorite pass times was restoring old homes. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings. He is survived by his five children, Blair (Susan), Duane (Diana), Donna (Loren) Callaway, Robert (Beverly), and Kathryn, all of Nephi. Nineteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Maxine of 59 years, parents, brothers, Fred, LaRaine, Henry, Charles; sisters, Sadie Bowers, Nina Chappel, Deon Phillipsen and Edna Painter. Funeral services were held November 15, 2004 in the Nephi 8th Ward. Interment in Vine Bluff Cemetery, Nephi, Utah. Obituary from the Nephi Times-News.
