Bio

Mrs. Callie Josephine Turner, aged 79, died in a local hospital Thursday afternoon, July 12. She was born in Franklin County and had lived in Newport over 30 years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and was very active until she retired of ill health. She was a life time member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service and held many offices. She served as Chaplain in the Legion Auxiliary, and during World War II she was a faithful worker in the USO services. Mrs. Turner and her husband, Thomas Nathan Turner celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary July 4th. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Nathan Turner; six sons, B.L. Turner of Newport, J.O. Turner of Alexandria, LA, J.R. Turner of Homestead, Fla., T.E. Turner of Atchison, Kansas, W.L. Turner of Kansas City, Mo, R.R. Turner of Mansfield, LA; three daughters, Mrs. Guy Stephens and Miss June Turner both of Newport and Mrs. Frank McGuyer of Shreveport, LA; two brothers, Earl Patterson of Baldwin Park, Calif., R.B. Patterson of San Bruno, CA, one sister, Mrs. H.A. Koontz of South Gate, CA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday morning at the First Methodist Church by Rev. Frank Weatherford and burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery by Dillinger Funeral Home.
