Bertha Mae Rice, 85, of Caldwell passed away October 18, 2012 in Bryan, Texas. Bertha was born August 5, 1927 to Dwight McDonald and Eura (Hargrove) McDonald, in Ben Arnold, Texas. Bertha married Glenn Rice on July 15, 1945, in Opelika, Alabama. Bertha and Glen shared 58 years together before his passing in 2004. Bertha was a member of the First Baptist Church of Caldwell. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed working in her garden, and loved to bake and share her pies and vegetables. Bertha is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Fabiola Rice of Los Angeles, California; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Barry Linn of Wasilla, Alaska; grandchildren, Todd Warren, Megan Monnich, Misti Villarreal, Joe, Doyle, and Ivan Rice; eight great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; and one great grandchild, Isaac Monnich. Funeral services are at the Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery. The family requests the memorial contributions be made to Hospice Brazos Valley.
